THE PEOPLE BEHIND STORYTIME

Who we are

We're three Pivotal alumni, spread across design, engineering, and product, bootstrapping StoryTime together.

Founders

Nat

Nat

Head of Engineering

Nat Bennet is a writer, art photographer, dog person, consultant, and developer. They believe that their English degree has been a core asset to their engineering career.

After nearly a decade working in engineering and management on Cloud Foundry at Pivotal, they’ve spent the last several years consulting with clients in engineering-crisis situations and developing StoryTime.

You can see more of their various projects at simplermachines.com.

Coby

Coby

Head of Design

Coby Almond is a consulting designer with a 20+ year background in fine arts and technology, currently working in the public sector. He and his wife Valarie keep several children alive, happy, and growing.

At Pivotal, he both worked with a wide variety of clients, and headed up the design of Pivotal Observability for Cloud Foundry for a time.

His current focus is on building cross-functional fluency in software teams navigating and making sense of complexity. He writes about this and more at fullstacksyntax.com.

Jesse

Jesse

Head of Product

Jesse Alford is a technologist and consultant with a background in manual labor and mechanical repair, and a deep interest in amplification.

He was a Technology Lead on Pivotal Cloud Foundry, and is now principal consultant for Nonlinear Garden, which consults on engineering, product, and process matters, as well as offering individual coaching and advice.

You can subscribe to his erratic and infrequent newsletter at nonlinear.garden.

Why we're building this

People suffer under the complexity and incoherence of their tools, so we're building something that does it better: software that keeps the work — not the tool — at its heart.

StoryTime is for balanced teams and anyone else who want to think and communicate in terms of prioritized stories in context rather than assigned tasks or elaborately filed tickets.

Those things are so exhausting. StoryTime feels like home.

Working principles

Everyone on a team should see the same picture.
Position alone represents priority.
Acceptance and specification are the same job.
Configuration options represent design failure.
Stories let us learn, think, and feel, together.
